1.Emotional Intelligence


Its a crucial part of a strategic communicators armour. Knowing when and how to respond is paramount. Whilst building your case for growth through hard work and job knowledge, rubbing people the right way too plays a critical role. Your likability matters and how you treat others with respect plays a big part when promotion time comes.


2.Be assertive not aggressive communicator


Often times I have seeing people trying to force their hand by taking on an aggressive communication style. Being aggressive sometimes has its advantages, but on the long run it doesn't build you supporters. Hence, developing an assertive communication style whilst respecting others opinions is the right path to take.


3.Active listening


Its a myth that a good communicator is all about one way speaking and other listen. Far from the truth. It is said that a good communication ratio is 60/40. Listen 60% and talk 40%. However, as humans we are impatient to express our opinions. Therefore, learning the art of active listening helps balance the ratio. Truly listening to the other person by acknowledging, paraphrasing, mirroring , summarizing etc.,gives the other person the feeling that they have been heard.
