About Garwin Murray

A realist and a person who believes in living a life to the fullest , Garwin Murray started his Entrepreneurial journey in 2011 by founding Detroves Travels, an inbound company. Rewinding time, Garwin started his corporate career in 2000 at blue chip Aitken Spence and worked there for 10 years. Thereafter moved to the Taj group (Subsidiary of Tata group India) and was Director of Sales for one of Sri Lanka’s best 5 star hotels, Vivanta by Taj Bentota. In search for challenges , Garwin left his lucrative job to take on the challenge of been an entrepreneur. With much effort he has managed to build Detroves travels to a fully fledged travel company focused on providing high quality service.

 

Additionally, Garwin started his career in Corporate training from 2013 and have trained in many companies including MAS Holdings. Training has been his passion and his main focus is on soft skills such as communication , grooming, life strategy etc. His passion for public speaking was fueled when he joined Toastmasters in 2008 and through the Toastmaster fraternity have trained many organizations including blue many chip companies , universities, schools and Government institutes. He has already participated in many speech contests through Toastmasters and have reached finals at the District level held in India. Garwin served as President of his Toastmaster club “Ralph Toastmasters” in 2016/17. He is currently reading for his MBA at Cardiff Metropolitan University UK. He has also completed stage 3 of “Train the trainer” program conducted by City & Guilds UK.

 

Garwin’s is a naturally entertaining motivational speaker. Most of his sessions are full of energy and very interactive. Garwin’s philosophy in teaching is that if the learner does not enjoy the training they will never learn. You simply cannot force someone to learn something unless they are motivated to do so. That is Garwin’s special skill, he brings out the enthusiasm of the learners.

 

On a lighter note , Garwin is also a part time musician and stand up comedian. He has performed to many audiences around Colombo. He has also lectured in Tourism and also in MBA programs conducted by the University of Moratuwa.

 

His ambition is to become a serial entrepreneur who could help Sri Lanka grow as an economic power within the south Asian region. Hence he believes that Sri Lankan entrepreneurs should do their part to help this vision come true. He also hopes to become one of the top trainers in Asia and eventually around the world. Garwin is a big follower of entrepreneurs such as Steve Jobs , Elon Musk and world renowned trainers such as Anthony Robbins , Victor Antonio.

 

He motto is , “If you want to live big , you gotta dream big”
